Friday, the first day of the trip to England.

Back!!!!!! And had such a great time. I am going to cover the trip one day at a time otherwise it will get too long and take me too much writing at once. So today you will be treated to friday.

We made good time to Belgium last night. It was a pretty short night on an airbed in a small room. I went to bed around 10 but did not sleep un
till 11. And then woke up a few times. We had to get up at 4.30, gulp! I think we were all still feeling tired. Driving to Dunkirk went fine, we arrived just when check-in was closing and could drive on the boat straight away. It wasn't very busy, we had some breakfast on the boat. And then went outside to watch Dover coming up. It is so spectacual to see the white cliffs looming up. The best way to reach England really.

Checkin at the cottage was 4 o'clock in the afternoon and it was now 9 o'clock. We had already decided to go sightseeing today. And the choice of destination was Canterbury. I had been there before in 1985 so I did not rememb
er much of it. Took only half an hour to drive there. And straight out of the car we spotted a second hand bookshop so the next half hour we were covered. :) Luckily we all like books.

Up next was the canterbury tales. It is well worth a visit if you are ever near. A fun way to explore the works of Chaucer. [Yes I did buy the book later
on and plan to read it] Next was the wonderfull Canterbury abbey. It is the seat of the archbishop of Canterbury and the anglican church. It is a beautifull church. Majestic and light. Of course famous for the murder of Thomas a Becket. I was surprised to find the grave of Edward the black prince there and of Henry Bolingbroke [Henry IV] Lancaster/York history is a favorite of mine. And here you have the roots of the wars of the roses, pretty great to see. Took many pictures there.

But by now 1 o'clock I was getting pretty exhausted unfortunately. Having a nice english lunch did help a little but I had to struggle through the rest of the day. Did some shopping at HMV and Waterstone. Browsing really not buying yet. Then we drove off to find a Matalan and do some clothes shopping. I love these shops, they have affordable clothes at great prices. I bought some blouses and vests.

We reached the cottage around 6 after getting lost a little bit. We came from a different direction then the drive info showed. I was so tired now that I went straight to bed and let the others go to the supermarket. Tomorrow would be another very long day. Only came out to have a bite to eat later on and then back to bed.
