Sixth holiday blog

We are coming to the end of my holiday. Friday was the last day of sightseeing and we had selected Porthsmouth. Again not too far a drive from Winchester. Here you can see two great historic ships. The first is HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship at Trafalgar. Last time I was here you went in with a guided tour, now it was selfguided. And I remembered correctly how hard it is on us who are a bit taller. With 1.84 it is not fun. And the poor captain of the boat was 1.93. While would anyone of that length want to enter the navy of that time is beyond me. We all enjoyed the tour very much and after this one we went to the Mary Rose museum. She is a Tudor royal ship, named after Henry VIII's favorite sister. There is about half of the ship left and it is still being sprayed with a solution to save her. Amazing that it sunk almost 500 years ago. This year in September she will be dry and then they will preserve her and build a new museum that will open in 2012. I do want to come back when that opens! Because she is behind glass it is not easy to take good pictures now. After this it was time for lunch and then we split up for a few hours. The boys wanted to do WWII and I wanted to do the museum with artifacts from the Mary Rose. I really love that some museum and of course took plenty of pics again. I had some time left to hit the shops. Very dangerous as they have many Tudor style artifacts. But today I was good!
As there was some time left we decided to beat the rush hour out of Portsmouth and visit a medieval castle not far from the city. And actually something I had not been before! Porchester castle. It was a very nice surprice. The keep was still there and we climbed all the way to the top. And most of the outer walls were still there together with a very beautifull small church. That evening Robert joined us briefly and Dru stayed a little longer so it was a late night.

The next morning was loading the car, fun!But we got it all to fit in the end and then it was off to Dover. We were lucky and had an earlier boat then planned. Very rough crossing thoug and traffic jams in Belgium. So I was glad to be home and go straight to bed! But it was a great holiday!!!!
