Books

Going to concentrate on the books I read this week as nothing else happened. In between bouts of flu I did manage to read some on the less bad days. Yeah this is a fun flu that targets the head so plenty bad headaches and it was way touch not to reach for the paracetamol, I guess the worst week I have had so far. But I have 13 days to go now on my 3 months and I am so not going to screw that up!

First I finished Iron kissed, the third Mercy Thompson book by Patricia Briggs. This series really rocks, I love it! There is a good story, sex is only a small part of it, which I like best. Lots of angst and attraction but not exactly acting on it by the main character. Fast becoming a favorite series of mine. Can't wait till part 4 comes out in paperback. Yeah pet peeve, it came out in HB, hate it when it happens in the middle of a series. Means a longer wait. :( And I am bad at waiting, but not going to spend way too much money on a HB that will take up more space.

I was not very impressed with the next book I finished, something I had borrowed from a friend. Sara Gruen's water for elephants. I don't read much literature anymore because frankly most of the time I find it boring, the story not interresting and the characters well not interresting again. I read a lot of literature during high school and hell I studied to become a teacher of dutch and english, very few literature books make it to my top 100. And I have many novels that I think are way better in plot and character development. Especially the fantasy and SF fields are sadly neglected by literature lovers. I say they miss a lot. Very curious what other people's opinions are. Of course I can name some very good literature novels. Like color purple, and my name is Asher Lev.

Swordpoint was one of these rare books that took me a while to get into and that I ended up liking. Most of the time when I don't like it or are not sure within the first 50 pages I will not like it. But this one only gripped me during the second half and then I was sorry I had finished it. Good to see on amazon that there is indeed a follow-up. I am going to go for that. It is set in a fantasy world and there is a lot of politics involved. The main protagonists, lovers are a male couple. And their lovestory is well handled.

So I have started several new books as well. reasonable good day today, but not good enough to do anything usefull, so I am going to spoil myself and watch DVD's and read! So hopefully I will have some new reviews soon!

Sixth holiday blog

We are coming to the end of my holiday. Friday was the last day of sightseeing and we had selected Porthsmouth. Again not too far a drive from Winchester. Here you can see two great historic ships. The first is HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship at Trafalgar. Last time I was here you went in with a guided tour, now it was selfguided. And I remem bered correctly how hard it is on us who are a bit taller. With 1.84 it is not fun. And the poor captain of the boat was 1.93. While would anyone of that length want to enter the navy of that time is beyond me. We all enjoyed the tour very much and after this one we went to the Mary Rose museum. She is a Tudor royal ship, named after Henry VIII's favorite sister. There is about half of the ship left and it is still being sprayed with a solution to save her. Amazing that it sunk almost 500 years ago. This year in September she will be dry and then they will preserve her and build a new museum that will open in 2012. I do want to come bac

Flow!

Flow is a wonderfull thing, it makes you creative and you want to keep going and going without ever stopping what you are doing. But.... if you are a chronic sufferer like me, it has it's drawbacks. I function very well if I take many a n to my practice in fact. It came to me last week. I don't have my own space for sessions so I have to rent. I like to communicate with people all over the world and already want to work with people from foreign countries who live in the Netherlands. Why not branch out to internet coaching? And use modern techniques as voice and video on the computer. I could then branch out to people who are thinking about moving and give them advice. And even do regular counseling/coaching for people who find it hard to come to my location. nd long breaks throughout the day. And well that kinda breaks the flow. finding my way in this process has taken me a long time. And I am there now, most of the time. This week I found it very difficult to stop in time, bef

Dutch drivers

There are days that I hate Dutch drivers! I had to take my dad to the hospital this morning for a check-up and of course it as during rush hour. In town I have to cross a point were it is almost impossible to get on the road at that hour because nobody will let you in. So I avoided this point by taking a detour and ended up there on the right road. Now I was thinking about the other people who have trouble merging in. And I let one car in what all the cars ahead of me didn't do. But then the other cars waiting pushed their way in in front of me. And that makes me mad!!!! you try to help and then they take advantage of you. Not good! At the hospital which we made with minutes to spare we found out that the doctor had been stuck in traffic and there was a 45 minutes delay. Grrrrrr not a nice morning.
