Vote!!!

First my faith in the banks has been restored a little bit. Earlier this year I had a lot of trouble with a checque that they cashed for me and keeping 45 euro in charges without telling me beforehand. Luckily I complained and met someone at the local bank who agreed with me. She couldn't do anything more but told me to write a complaint letter and she would back me. So I did not expecting to hear anything, especially as the bank, Fortis, got into a great deal of trouble in the mean time. But yesterday I received a phonecall saying the money has been returned, all of it!!!! Very nice with the holiday season coming up.

Today i
s the day of the elections in the United States. But I think that it is of import to the whole world. You see that in the Netherlands, it has been about the only thing on the news for the last couple of weeks. Everybody is talking about it and the kids learn about it in school. And it IS important to the rest of the world. Look what 8 years of Bush has done to the world. It will take a long time to recover from that. Obama is not my candidate of choise, he is too right wing for me. I would have preferred Hillary or Edwards. But compared to John McCain he is an angel. At least he is willing to do something about health care and gun control. And he will probably start withdrawing troops from Iraq and Afghanistan soon. I am not saying those troops must go immediatly. I was against the war, and always will be but we got those people in so much trouble that we can't abandone them now. So tonight I will be rooting for Obama. It would be a breakthrough, the first half black president of the United States. I hope he makes it and I hope he survives four years in office.

Will you stay awake to follow the elections?

I thought about it. I did so in 2000 but I am going out for a day with friends tomorrow so it is not wise. Otherwise I might have at least for the first few hours. If Obama gets the first few swing states like Virginia it is a done deal. I hope not to wake up to a nasty surprise. I remember going to bed around 4 in 2000 very sure that Al Gore had won and it was a huge dissapointmet the next morning.
