Third holiday blog - shop till you drop
I had never been to Southampton before, but doing my research beforehand on the internet it seemed like the best option in the area to go shopping, the only town that had all the shops I was looking for and a few days before I left Borders was kind enough to send me a coupon for 20% off in one of their shops, that offer lasted until tuesday. So that automatically made tuesday the shopping day.
It was only a short drive to Southampton from Winchester and we could park pretty close to the Borders. With three book addicts and a coupon we were pretty sure we would have to return there after just one shop. And we were right. When the lady at the till saw us coming the first thing she did was ask for backup and open up another one for the customers behind us. It was also heavy and yeah we did need to go back to the car before resuming shopping.
Second stop was for clothes. And again I was pretty succesful, came away with some nice tops, in this weather I can already start wearing them! HMV came next and like most shops they had an Easter sale on. Oh dear, again especially Koen and me could not resist ourselves. It is going to mean bread and water for the rest of the year but I had fun. I guess it was also the relief that I will not lose my disability money that allowed me to have fun for once.
Last stop would be .... the forbidden planet... for those of you who don't know these stores. They specialice in english and american SF, fantasy and paranormal romance. Those are the only kind of books they sell, and roleplaying stuff. Very dangerous store and sure enough I was able to find some books here that I had not been able to find at borders. There I had concentrated more on history, historic romance and studybooks. Here I bought paranormal romance and some fantasy and SF novels. By now we were again laden so heavilly that we could barely carry our stuff to the car.
To do something cultural we drove to the historic part of town and had a short nice walk there taking in some of the sights. I love these old english pubs by the way.Part of the old medieval citywall. Unfortunately the museums we wanted to see closed at four and we were just too late to see those. So we drove home just beating the traffic. Had some different kind of shopping at Sainsbury and a quiet dinner in tonight.
In the evening we played a boardgame, Arkham horror. Great game and one of these rare games that you can play with up to 8 people so ideal when going on holiday with large groups of people.
