Worst day ever

Now I was going to blog about books today, but... yesterday's events have put my mind on completely different matters. Doing something create now as I find it very hard to think and concentrate right now. Still not feeling well and... well let's start at the beginning.

First there was a festive day yesterday, queensday in the netherlands. Always a festive day with whole families having fun. The queen always visits one or two cities with her whole family and joins in the fun. Yesterday she went to Apeldoorn, which has a long connection with the royal family. They would visit the town in the morning and then in the afternoon people would file past the royal family like they used to do in the times of her mother queen Juliana. I remember that from my youth and was looking forward to seeing it. Usually I don't want the festivities on tv but yesterday I was. And then 11.49 a huge crash and on tv we watch a car crash into a momunent along the route just missing the royal bus. I sit there watching, shocked. The camera pans out and soon the horrible truth becomes known, there are people laying on the ground, most of them not moving, help rushing towards them and pretty soon CPR starts. Not good. Within an hour the festivities are cancelled and it becomes clear that it was indeed an attack on the royal family, the act of one madman. Later during the day we hear five people have died and this morning the murdered died as well.

Oh, my dear. I had no idea anything like this had happened when I wrote to you last night. And now my thoughts are filled with worry for your friends, Jaap and Linda.

I don't know them, but still my heart goes out to them.

Please tell them both, when you get the chance, that I'm thinking of them - thinking good thoughts of comfort and speedy recovery.

And the attack on the Royal family, that, too must have been a terribly traumatic thing to witness.

It does sound like the worst day I could imagine.

You know I'm always here if you need to talk. Only the miles between us keep me from offering you my shoulder...

Thank you, hugs! I am waiting to hear more right now from a friend who went to visit in the hospital today. Will be good to hear a first hand account of how he is doing.
